Shadow Of War Save Game

After the unbearable wait all summer long following the game being unceremoniously pushed from August to October, what will undoubtedly be the most all-consuming title of Fall 2017 has arrived!

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War sees Talion and his wraith companion Celimbrimbor return for more orc-slaying shenanigans, but with even more army-raising and war-waging than ever before! Get ready to slaughter orcs (and much more) by the hundreds while forging your own green skin fighting force.

Sure, this sequel does see the series depart even more heavily from Tolkien's roots and essentially ditch any attempt at lore cohesion -- but if you loved the game play of Shadow Of Mordor, there's no reason you shouldn't be installing the extra 33 gigs off the disc and playing right now.

Game

There is a bit of a catch once that download time is done, however... how in the heck is Talion supposed to save his progress? The game doesn't tell you at all, and more than a few players are worried about losing hours' worth of progress before quitting.

Did the game save, or are we going to have to kill this guy over again?

Once you've chosen them, simply hop into Shadow of War, get cracking on your playthrough, and as long as you're on the same platform as your Shadow of Mordor save, they'll eventually arrive in-game!

Manual Saving in Shadow Of War

With how much of the game world's state changes at any given time between the updated Nemesis and Stronghold systems -- not to mention all your various skills and item upgrades -- it seems obvious that Shadow Of War uses an auto-save feature.

I found it back when I posted here earlier tonight so I could back it up onto my Google Drive, as I do with all games when I finish them. Search your C drive for.sav The file will be like 00000666ShadowOfWar.sav or omething like that. Edit: v1.3 Modifying the game timer can be flaky, i.e. Monsters stop moving LOL. Added the actual timer pointer (start time and timer length), and the freeze timer now write the current time to the start time, so it always seems like it just started. I left the game time in there (it affects the time of day for some reason). Shadow of War save data gone I've been enjoying Shadow of War on game pass pc, so much so that I bought the definitive edition, but then when I tried to play the other day my save was gone with new game being the only option. Shadow of War will also save after certain in-game events, such as a mission or quest completion. If you finish a main story mission, or even an objective within one, your progress is automatically.

What's not immediately clear is just exactly when the game automatically creates a new save file. The tutorial mission doesn't mention it, save info doesn't show up as a tip in the load screens, and even the help segment covering the game's mechanics provides no clues as to what's going on.

While the ring, hammer, and dagger icon appear when things load, the reverse isn't true -- there's no icon displayed when a save file is created. This seems to indicate that saves happen often enough that the developer didn't want it always on the screen.

Shadow Of War Save Game

Seems like this would have been a pretty obvious choice...

While it appears the game automatically saves after you kill (or are killed by) any given orc captain, the rest is more up in the air. Does Shadow Of War save when you pick up a new item, or when you equip it? What about when you spend a skill point?

Quitting to the main menu seems to save your progress if you are traversing the map, but if you are in the middle of quest you lose it all and have to start over at the beginning by returning to the quest's origin point.

So what can you do to save manually and ensure that doesn't happen? The TL;DR is that you can't. Instead, you have to find a way to force an auto-save to prevent Talion from losing any progress.

At this point, the only sure-fire method to force an automatic save is to fast travel on the world map to a new location. Pick a spot, travel, and when the new area loads the state of the world and your current equipment loadout will be saved.

Importing Shadow Of Mordor Saves

There's another interesting twist with Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War saves -- the game takes a look at your previous Shadow Of Mordor save game data and can actually import any nemesis you left alive.

You might want to load up that previous game and remind yourself who wasn't dead yet so it will actually mean something when that big ugly brute shows up to challenge your undead ranger!

They may have new skills and weaknesses, but some old faces can still appear...

Monolith Productions is gearing up for its next project, and as it does, details are beginning to trickle out about it.

SaveShadow Of War Save Game

The Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment studio has been around for 20 years, but many of you will know it for its last two games: 2014's Middle-earth: Shadow of Modor and 2017's Middle-earth: Shadow of War. As you may know, the former was up for many awards the year it released, while the latter still managed to sell and review decently well despite being devoured in a loot box controversy. And presumably, Monolith Productions' next title will be another Middle-earth game.

However, this time it looks like the Washington-based studio is taking the world of Tolkien and stretching it into an absolute open-world game, this is at least according to two job postings from the developer.

One job listing is for and Advanced Software Engineer, and makes notes of open-worlds multiple times in parts of its description. For example:

Shadow Of War Save Game Lost Ps4

'Monolith Productions' Core Technology Team is expanding its Pipeline group to include an Advanced level engineer specifically focused on the technical design and implementation of our new Open World Pipeline. This person should have an in-depth understanding of modern, real-time Open World content generation pipelines. Along with their peers in on the Engine, Rendering, World and Technical Art teams, they will develop new pipelines enabling creation of a single scalable, stream-able contiguous open world that players can immerse themselves in for our next big gaming innovation.'

Meanwhile, a listing for an Advanced Technical Artist, also makes references to the creation of open-worlds.

'Monolith Productions, a division of WB Games is looking to expand its Technical Art group with an Advanced Technical Artist focused on Open World Pipelines. Join the award winning team in creating brand new open worlds with our proprietary Firebird Engine technology. This role has a focus on pipeline, content construction and best practices for streaming and LOD systems focused on world constructions. The Advanced Technical Artist would work with the technical directors to help build the infrastructure to create our environments.'

As you may know, both Shadow of War and Shadow of Modor both featured large, open levels, but neither game was an open-world game by definition. However, it looks like the junior release will be.

Of course, the various listings -- there are others -- make note of all different interesting things. One for a Principal Technical Artist references the series' signature Nemesis System, but with a little bit of twist. More specifically, the listing makes it sound like the next game's Nemesis System will feature humans with the part that reads: “believable human characters that will interact with the player in our next Nemesis system based game.”

In the first two games, only Orcs featured in the Nemesis system. And so this seems to suggest that either there will be more factions in the next game, or that it could actually be a brand-new IP with the Nemesis System carried over.

Shadow Of War Save Pc

Who knows. At the moment, Monolith Productions hasn't yet revealed or even teased what's working on. With all the controversy around Shadow of War, it wouldn't be too surprising if the team moved on from the world of Tolkien -- at least for a bit. Previously, the studio has recruited for people 'who love sci-fi,' so maybe we are getting a new sci-fi IP from it next?

Thanks, GearNuke.
